The study rooms of the department are equipped with multimedia equipment, where students, students of the Institute of Continuing Additional Education are trained in the sections "Hospital Surgery", "Anesthesiology and resuscitation", "Otorhinolaryngology" using modern technologies, listen to lectures, take part in various conferences and seminars online.
Since 1998, a computer class has been created at the department (L. V. Yanchenko), where students, clinical residents, students of the Institute of Continuing Additional Education, practitioners are tested for assignment or confirmation of the qualification category.
The department has a cinema room for watching educational films and the possibility of broadcasting operations on cable television to classrooms.
The department trains surgeons, anesthesiologists, resuscitators, otorhinolaryngologists in clinical residency, postgraduate studies. During the existence of the department, more than 600 highly qualified surgeons, anesthesiologists, resuscitators, otorhinolaryngologists, emergency physicians have been trained successfully working in Kirov and the region, as well as abroad, and outside the Russian Federation. Since 2000, 2 dissertations have been prepared and defended for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences, and 8 dissertations for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences.
Every year, more than 200 students are trained at the department for professional retraining in the specialties "Surgery", "Anesthesiology and Resuscitation", "Emergency Medical care", "Otorhinolaryngology". During the existence of the department, more than 5,000 students have been retrained.
The department closely interacts with practical healthcare institutions. The staff of the department hold clinical conferences, give lectures to doctors of the city and region on surgical diseases, anesthesiology and resuscitation, emergency medicine, otorhinolaryngology.
The staff of the department has published more than 30 teaching aids for students, residents, practitioners.
