Hamid Ahmed Salah Ismail Salem, a student at the Faculty of Foreign Students of Kirov State Medical University, represented the university at the International Summer School "F.A.S.T.: Focused Assessment & Skills in Therapy." The English-language educational project was held between 13 and 26 July at Lobachevsky University as part of the Russian-African Network University program, with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. A total of 15 future general practitioners from Algeria, Egypt, Cameroon, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, the Republic of the Congo, Tunisia and Chad took part in this prestigious intensive program.
Over two weeks of intensive training, the summer school participants completed an extensive curriculum totaling 2 credits. The future specialists received rigorous practical training in anesthesiology and critical care medicine. Through simulation and clinical courses, they practiced ultrasound scanning techniques for the heart, blood vessels, lungs and abdominal cavity; thoroughly studied protocols for examining patients in critical conditions. The organisers placed special emphasis on analysing complex clinical cases of rare diseases involving real patients, as well as on the intricacies of inotropic support and medical pharmacology. Additionally, the participants honed their skills in working with scientific literature, mastering methods of proper article reading, interpretation of research findings, and the application of evidence-based medicine principles in clinical practice.
The intensive academic program was harmoniously complemented by a cultural agenda, which allowed the international guests to explore the historical heritage of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The school participants visited the scenic embankments of Nizhny Novgorod and the ancient town of Gorodets. According to the participants themselves, the project enabled them not only to reach a new professional level but also to find like-minded colleagues and friends from around the world.
