As part of the Health School initiative, the Department of Internal Medicine hosted a discussion titled "Smoking and Respiratory Diseases." The session, held within the phthisiology cycle, was organised for students of the Faculty of Foreign Students.

During the event, future physicians delivered presentations and analyzed statistics from various countries. Student Hamid Ahmed provided a detailed account of the prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema, tuberculosis, and lung cancer in Egypt, along with a comparative analysis of the rise in these pathologies linked to tobacco smoking. Badr Gadah and Hegazi Eslam addressed the harmful effects of nicotine on the bronchial mucosa and lung tissue. They explained how the habit weakens immunity and worsens the course of respiratory tract diseases. In addition, Badr Gadah presented data on the size and age composition of the smoking population in Saudi Arabia, comparing these figures with tuberculosis incidence rates.
