World Pharmacist Day, traditionally celebrated on 25 September, served as the occasion for a thematic lesson held at the Department of Russian Language and Intercultural Communication of Kirov State Medical University. Teacher N.L. Noskov dedicated the academic session with students of the Faculty of Foreign Students to the analysis of medical instructions in Russian. Future specialists practiced examining patient information leaflets for antibiotics, antiviral and analgesic medications.
The event was conducted within the framework of the course "Russian as the Language of the Profession," taught by N.L. Noskov, which aims to develop skills for fluent professional communication in the doctor-patient relationship system. Each session within the series enables international students to work through real communicative scenarios they will encounter during their practice in hospitals and clinics. The recent lesson helped students master essential aspects, including dosage calculation rules, assessment of the compatibility of various medications, determination of the duration of a therapeutic course, as well as identification of indications, contraindications and side effects.
The interactive format of the session allowed 5th-year students to compare the features of healthcare systems in Russia and abroad. Students engaged in lively discussions about the availability, cost and prevalence of medications in different countries, and also proposed alternatives accepted in their home regions. The discussion then turned to healthy lifestyle issues, with particular attention given to maintaining proper sleep and rest schedules. Future medical professionals tried their hand at teaching and exchanged experience with one another. As a result of this intensive work, each participant learned to competently present in Russian the characteristics of at least four medicinal products.
