Education at Kirov SMU Meets World Standards

Kirov State Medical University continues to demonstrate the high quality of its specialist training in the context of global requirements for medical education.

According to updated data published on 14 May 2026, on the official website of the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), Kirov SMU remains on the list of universities whose graduates may be eligible for recognition of their diplomas in the United States and other countries. The current list includes only 12 Russian medical universities and Kirov SMU firmly maintains its position there.

It should be noted that in 2023, Kirov SMU successfully passed international specialised accreditation for three of its main educational programs - "General Medicine", "Dentistry" and "Nursing". The accreditation was granted for the maximum period of 5 years (until 2028). This outcome is compelling evidence that the content and quality of training at the university meet standards recognised by the international professional community.

The fact that the evaluation criteria used for educational programs are based on the requirements of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) is of a particular significance. In its turn, the World Health Organisation (WHO) recognises WFME standards as a key benchmark for medical education systems globally. Thus, the positive decision by ECFMG regarding Kirov SMU, as well as the other Russian universities on the current list, confirms that the university meets international quality standards in healthcare.

For graduates of Kirov SMU, this means continued prospects for academic and professional mobility, including the opportunity to participate in postgraduate training programs and undergo qualification recognition procedures abroad within the framework of current ECFMG regulations and those of other relevant authorities.

The university continues to develop cooperation with international organisations and consistently works to improve the quality of education, following best global practices and the principles of openness.
