Talking About What Matters: World Stress Awareness Day

Every April, the medical community observes World Stress Awareness Day. Students of the International Faculty, under the guidance of Professor S.D.Andreeva, thoroughly analysed the mechanisms by which chronic stress affects physical and mental health. During the meeting, participants completed a questionnaire to determine their current level of psycho-emotional load, and the results confirmed the need to master self-regulation techniques and build personal stress resilience.

The discussion addressed the nature of stress as a natural reaction of the body to external pressure, with special attention given to distinguishing between eustress, which mobilises energy, and dangerous distress, which can lead to depression, cardiovascular pathologies, and complete exhaustion of the body's resources. It was noted that stress is a tool for non-specific adaptation to change, but without proper control it becomes a destructive force.

To preserve health during exam periods, students were advised to incorporate time management basics into daily life, along with breathing practices, meditation, and mandatory breaks from work. Concluding the discussion, participants agreed that self-care, including quality sleep, proper nutrition, and regular physical activity, is the best way to protect against professional and academic burnout.
