On the eve of University Day, the traditional event "Night at the University" took place, dedicated to the culture of different peoples. The event, which has been held for more than ten years, was this time timed to coincide with the Year of Friendship of the Peoples of Russia and highlighted the multinational character of the university, where students from thirty-seven countries as well as representatives from nearly all corners of Russia study.
The rector, L.M. Zheleznov, opened the evening and in his welcoming speech particularly noted the value of cultural diversity, which has become an integral part of university life. The vice-rector for educational and social work, E P Elsukova, reminded attendees of the university's rich history and emphasized that very soon, on April 2, the university will celebrate its thirty-ninth anniversary, adding that each graduate is part of a large university family that unites people of different nationalities and traditions.
The initiative to hold the event belonged to the student body, and the university space for one evening turned into a real journey around the world, with every corner becoming a thematic zone dedicated to the traditions of different countries and regions. Guests could immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Georgia, travel to sunny Italy, and enjoy the unique charm of a Belarusian zone with an exhibition and puzzles.
Visitors were invited to hospitable Kazakhstan to create traditional jewelry and learn about tea customs, while the Russian zone brought ancient traditions to life with games and fortune telling. Tatar culture presented a mini-Sabantuy with fun contests, the Azerbaijani corner introduced guests to folk dances and henna art, and the Uzbekistani corner warmly welcomed guests with tea and sweets.
A fair of student groups unfolded nearby, the Armenian sector offered folk board games, and everyone was invited to showcase their vocal talents at karaoke. The evening ended with a contest for the best costume matching the theme of the celebration, and the bright and memorable event once again proved that cultural unity is born from respect for the traditions of every people.
