Feat, Glory, Inspiration: Traditions of 23 February and 8 March

The Department of Russian Language and Intercultural Communication held events for foreign students dedicated to the traditions of celebrating Defender of the Fatherland Day and International Women's Day in Russia.

The students watched the film "White Tiger" by K. Shakhnazarov about the heroism of a Soviet soldier during the Great Patriotic War. The film evoked a deep emotional response in them.

The students also visited an exhibition of books on the history of the Russian army, from the era of Suvorov and Kutuzov to the Great Patriotic War, organised by the library of Kirov State Medical University. The literature review helped them better understand the role of Russian soldiers in defending the country and gain a deeper insight into the characteristics of Russian culture.

A separate exhibition was prepared for International Women's Day, where foreign students learned about outstanding women of Russia: Princess Olga, Empress Catherine II, Sofia Kovalevskaya, Valentina Tereshkova, Anna Pavlova and Anna Akhmatova.

The stories of Zinaida Ermolyeva, a microbiologist and inventor of the antibiotic crustazine, and surgeon Vera Gedroits, who worked on methods for treating severe wounds, were of particular interest to the future doctors. This sparked a discussion about gender equality in science and overcoming stereotypes. Many students noted that the examples of such individuals inspire them to succeed in their studies and future scientific projects.

The event concluded on a poetic note with a reading of Konstantin Balmont's poem "Woman is with Us."
