On 26 February, the Department of Biology hosted an intellectual game titled "Geniuses of Genetics" for first-year students of the Faculty of Foreign Students. The event was dedicated to the role of genetics in modern medicine.
Teachers pointed out that genetics is the foundation of medical science—from the classical discoveries of Gregor Mendel to the implementation of modern genome editing technologies, which have radically changed approaches to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of hereditary and acquired diseases. Special attention was given to the fact that for a future doctor, knowledge of genetics is not just a theoretical basis, but an essential tool for clinical thinking. It allows predicting the course of diseases and prescribe personalised therapy.
The competition took place in a dynamic and friendly atmosphere: students actively discussed the questions and showed a high level of interest in the discipline. The participants demonstrated their erudition, logical thinking and ability to work in a team. The program included three rounds, each dedicated to a different branch of medical genetics.
"Geniuses of Genetics" helped the first-year students not only to strengthen their understanding of the academic discipline and learn new facts in an engaging way, but also to feel like part of the professional medical community. The event was another step on the path to becoming competent specialists.
