A Field Saved, One Battery at a Time

A small but powerful environmental campaign has just concluded at the Department of Chemistry. Under the motto "Hand over the battery – save the planet!", students and teachers joined forces to collect used batteries for safe disposal.

Together, they gathered approximately 2 kg of used batteries. While this number might seem modest, its environmental impact is profound. A single battery can contaminate about 20 square meters of soil with toxic heavy metals. This means the collective effort has potentially protected an estimated 4,000 square meters of land—an area equivalent to an entire field - from pollution. The collected batteries will now be sent to a specialised company for proper recycling, ensuring these hazardous materials are kept out of our ecosystems.

This initiative stands as a perfect reminder that caring for our planet often starts with simple, conscious actions. Thank you to every student and teacher who participated and contributed to this vital cause.
