Future Doctors Visited The Library for Visually Challenged People

How do blind children learn about the world? What technologies help them learn and work? And how can future doctors provide them with qualified care? Students of the Faculty of Foreign Students of the Kirov State Medical University got answers to these questions after visiting the only specialised library for the blind in Kirov region.

The visit was organised in order to broaden the horizons of future doctors and introduce them to the principles of inclusivity, widely used in domestic medicine and education. Students had a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of people with visual disabilities, to learn about their characteristics, needs and achievements. The library specialists conducted an excursion for the guests, telling them about special book formats, typhlotechnics and other devices that make life easier for blind people. Future doctors learned how to communicate with patients with disabilities, what psychological characteristics should be taken into account when working with them.

Visiting the library has become an important stage of professional development for students. The acquired knowledge will help them to provide better medical care to patients in the future. We sincerely thank the director of the library T. N. Murina and the specialists for the warm welcome and an interesting tour!
