Since 1991 Currently, he is the head of the Department of Pediatrics at Kirov State Medical University (Kirov State Medical University). From 1991 to 1994 he was vice-rector for Research at Kirov State Medical University, from 1992 to 2014 he was a member of the dissertation Council at Perm State Medical University. Currently, he is a member of the Academic Council and a member of the CMS, a member of the Medical Council of Kirov State Medical University of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation, a member of the methodological commission for highly qualified personnel training programs, head of the educational program 31.08.19 Pediatrics, a member of the editorial board of the Vyatka Medical Bulletin journal, a member of the Association of Pediatric Allergologists and Immunologists of Russia. 

Thesis "The state of erythropoiesis in violation of pancreatic function in children" (Kazan State Medical University), doctoral dissertation "Pathogenetic foundations of erythropoiesis disorders in kidney pathology" (The Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University), in 1985 the USSR Higher Attestation Commission awarded him the academic title professor at the Department of Propaedeutics of Childhood diseases. Professor Y.Yu. Illek gives a full cycle of lectures for students of the 6th year of the Faculty of Pediatrics, a number of lectures for doctors on the cycle of advanced training in Pediatrics, conducts practical classes with students of the 4th, 5th and 6th courses of the Faculty of Pediatrics, practical classes and seminars for clinical residents.
Periodically takes advanced training courses in the profile of professional activity: pediatrics; pedagogy and psychology of higher education; modern information and communication technologies in education. He has a valid certificate of a specialist in the specialty "Pediatrics".

Professor Y.Y. Illek is the author of more than 750 printed works, including 17 monographs. He created a pediatric school. Under the scientific supervision of Professor Y.Y. Illek, 5 doctoral and 62 PhD theses were completed and successfully defended. Currently, students of Professor Y.Y. Illek work as heads of a number of departments and associate professors at Andgosmi and Tashgosmi (Republic of Uzbekistan), at Kirov State Medical University, Kirov Research Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, in medical institutions in Kirov, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Syktyvkar, Crimea and London.
Y.Y. Illek is included in the Encyclopedia of the Vyatka Land [section "Notable people"] (1996). He was awarded the Honorary Badge "Excellent Healthcare Worker" of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (2002) and the Diploma of the Kirov City Administration Health Department for his great personal contribution to the training of qualified medical personnel (2010). He was awarded the diploma of the winner of the review competition in the nomination "The best scientist in 2012" (2012). .He has the Gratitude of the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin for the successes achieved, active public activity and many years of conscientious work (2014). He was awarded a Certificate of Honor for many years of conscientious work (2015). He was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation for his services in the field of healthcare and many years of conscientious work (2017). He was awarded a Letter of Thanks for the organization and successful holding of the Olympiad in Pediatrics (2018). He was awarded the medal "For Services to National Healthcare" (2020). Awarded the Badge of Honor for outstanding services to Kirov State Medical University (2022).
