The teachers of the department conduct practical classes in the disciplines "Foreign language (English, German, French)", "Business foreign language", "Latin".
The department teaches elective disciplines "Intercultural professional communication" for students majoring in General Medicine, "Business foreign language" for students majoring in Dentistry; as well as elective disciplines "Fundamentals of Greek-Latin Medical Terminology" and "Communicative grammar of English" for students majoring in General Medicine and Pediatrics.
Since 2019, the disciplines "Latin" and "Oral professional Communication" have been taught in an intermediary language for foreign students. Since 2011, the teachers of the department have been implementing multi-level classes in spoken English for teachers and staff of the University. Classes in English and German are conducted according to the candidate's minimum program with graduate students. Since September 1, 2012, classes have been held on the program of additional education with the assignment of an additional qualification "Translator in the field of professional communication".
The department has 7 classrooms. There is an educational and methodological office, where foreign medical educational publications and reference books, linguistic and cultural materials, educational audio and video courses, etc. are presented. The department has working programs, methodological recommendations for teachers and methodological guidelines for students in all disciplines taught.
The main directions of methodological work:
- updating work programs;
- creating a media library (more than 120 disks);
- use of videos in foreign languages (more than 100 films): for students of foreign languages, for patients, for regional studies.
- creation and use of videos in foreign languages about culture, science, medicine in the Kirov region;
- creating catalougs of the most informative websites in various areas of knowledge;
- creating a bank of test tasks for current and intermediate control;
- formation of cases on the discipline "Foreign language" for part-time students;
- improvement of teaching methods and techniques;
- updating of test and examination materials;
- reviewing textbooks of teachers of the department and other universities;
- adaptation of new textbooks to the educational process;
- creation and effective use of banks of educational and teaching materials based on online publications of the British Medical Journal and patient education centers.
