The department has a theoretical status and carries out teaching activities in the disciplines: "Biology", "Medical Genetics", "Regenerative Medicine", "Anthropology", "General and Medical Genetics", "Molecular Biology", "Fundamentals of Medical Genetics". The management of the educational practice "Educational practice. Introductory. Biological" of 1st year students of the specialty "Medical Biochemistry". Since 2019, the department has been teaching the disciplines of "Medical Biology" and "Medical Genetics" in the 1st and 2nd courses of the specialty "General Medicine", "General Medicine (English medium)".
Staff of the department participate in the implementation of educational programs in the following specialties: 31.05.01 "General Medicine", 31.05.01 "General Medicine (English medium)", 31.05.02 "Pediatrics", 31.05.03 "Dentistry", 30.05.01 "Medical Biochemistry", 37.05.01 "Clinical Psychology", 39.03.02 "Social Work".
The department has published textbooks and workbooks on all sections of the subjects taught in Russian and English.
Local olympiads of students in medical biology are organized and held annually on the basis of the department of Biology of the Kirov State Medical University (since 2015).
The staff of the department is a member of the expert commission on Biology of the Volga Region Open Olympiad of schoolchildren "The Future of Medicine".
